On some quiet morning, you might take a stroll around lovely and friendly Kihei.  Maybe walk along the white sandy beach and lava outcroppings, or just meander down the road, and make it over to the posh hotels at nearby Wailea.  Shop fancy, or visit the local shops, souvenir plazas, or art outlets found throughout Kihei and all over Maui.  If you've never done it before, take in a traditional Hawaiian luau (many good ones in Wailea and other places around the island).  When you run into small farmers markets or hot food stands along Kihei Road, drop in and enjoy the local grown fruit and vegetables or traditional meals loved by the Hawaiian people.

On those less physical days, you might want to sightsee around this incredibly beautiful island. Take the winding, scenic drive to Hana or go there with an organized tour group.  (Tour guides will make sure you see black sand beaches and special views, waterfalls and sites along the way). Maybe arrange a helicopter tour and see fantastic rain forests, nature and the Haleakala crater.  Or take the half hour drive from the condo to the Iao Needle and experience not only the splendid scenery, but also an important part of Maui island history.
Maui Area Attractions and Things To Do

The scope and variety of attractions and things to do on Maui is world-renowned and practically endless.  The beach across from Kamaole Sands is rated among the top ten swimming beaches in the state of Hawaii.  Just a block or two away from our condo is the Kihei Boat Ramp, where scuba diving and snorkeling boats go out every day with vacationers to Molokini, a world famous dive site about 1/2 hour away by boat.  (Underwater visibility is generally 100 to 150 feet!).  Numerous other sports opportunities and outdoor physical activities abound around the island, including world class golf, tennis, kayaking, sailing, boating, paddle boarding, parasailing, jet skiing, surfing, windsurfing, biking (including riding down Haleakala mountain), hiking, fishing, horseback riding, hunting, tree top canopy rides, rock climbing and spelunking.

Just a short drive from Iao Needle to Kahului, and if it is a weekday when Maui Community College is in session, plan on having lunch at the college's cafeteria where you will surely enjoy the wonderful and inexpensive food whipped up by the expert student cooks from the Culinary Institute at the Maui CC.  And speaking about food, outstanding restaurants (from inexpensive to pricey) can be found everywhere around the island.  Take the picturesque, ocean-view drive to, and walk around, historical Lahaina, or maybe visit the Sugar Museum only 6 or 7 miles away from the condo.  Learn about the incredible Hawaii ocean environment and enjoy a half day or more at the fascinating Maui Ocean Center, a superb aquarium at the north end of Kihei. And if you don't want to particularly plan anything, just get in the car and drive out to the lava fields, or to Paia, or upcounty and see and enjoy Maui in your own special way.  If upcountry is your destination, a drive up the mountain to the Haleakala caldera should be on your to-do list (take a sweatshirt or sweater).
